Why Europe should take the lead on trade

Europe is a global commercial trading commodity for imports and exports, that being said all or most of their countries are connected, helping imports and exports flow better for trade than say the US due to the lower population of consumers.  The suggestion of Europe being at the center and top of trade could maybe favor most countries than USA or China being the lead on trade.  The article talks about Trumps imposition of tariffs on European steel and aluminum is posing a threat to national security, says Cecilia Malmstrom.  Europeans, specifically Cecilia Malmstrom, feels as though the US should be more fair about trading and not to be accused as a threat to national security.
After a few altercations in tariff reductions that caused protests against Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership between European countries that effected World Trade in 2014.  By this the drawbridge-up tendency has surged having wins for nationalists, Brexits vote from Britain, and Trump being elected.

  1. Tim,

I am struggling to follow your logic in the first paragraph. Yes, I do agree that European countries as well as some of the other countries who have many neighbors have easier trade with each other due to the fact that it is easy to transport and they are close, even the USMCA allows for easy trade for with America's neighbors. I will say that the amount to ship raw materials across the world is very expensive. However, I would like to read the article you wrote about. I am wondering how Europe being the center of trade would work and how it would benefit so many more countries. Could you please post the link to the article? Also, you pointed out the fact that small countries tend to struggle to trade with big countries. I agree with this to a certain extend but I would say it is more undeveloped and isolated countries that tend to struggle(I may be wrong as I havent researched this a ton). I have attached an article about the struggles of some small countries that was on the economist. With that said, I do not see how having Europe being the center of trade would in any way benefit these countries. As the struggles they face don't seem to have anything to do with who is the center of all trade.

  2. I agree with what Trae has commented above, while Europe is great for imports and exports, it is very beneficial between European countries rather than for world trade. The movement of goods throughout Europe, between European countries is great, but why have Europe as the centre of trade?
AS well as this, the two strongest economies and leaders in world trade are China and the US, with the ongoing uncertainty in Europe, where would the centre of trade take place? Although I understand somewhat as Europe is somewhat central between Asia and America, it is just as easy for China and the US to trade directly.
